The following assumes you are a small to medium sized company looking for a web presence. These web site issues are ones that anyone making the decision should consider before contacting anyone (including me) to ask what I charge for the design of a web site. GOAL What is your goal in creating a web site? Do you want a single page site which is basically just a PR or advertising tool for your actual physical site? Do you need a complete site done, including all design, organization, with many pages such as Tacit Communications, Inc. or South Coast Spas or Abby's Herb Company or even more complex? Like St. Croix Sculpture? Or is it something in between? Already have a site, but just want a revamp? I did that with Oak Ridge Research. LOCATION Where will your page(s) be located? On AOL with a URL of http://members.aol.com/screenname/pagename.html, on another server, your own domain such as http://www.yourcompany.com ? ORDERING Do you require secure online ordering? Does the server where your pages will be housed have this functionality? Do you have an 800/888 number or fax number? Do you plan on being available 24 hours? COUNTERS, FORMS, AND GUESTBOOKS Do you require email forms or guestbooks or counters? Does the server where your pages will be housed have this functionality? GRAPHICS AND DESIGN Do you have your own graphics or "look" that needs to be used or followed? Will you need any new graphic design? Do you already have an idea for how you want (or don't want) the site? PROGRAMMING Do you require special scripting or programming on your site? I specialize in clean and simple site design and will probably not be your best choice if you require intensive programming. Contact me if you would like to discuss this. CONTENT Do you have any of the site content in digital form (word processor file, etc.) or photographs you will need scanned? Or, will all content need to be re-typed. Do you have links or files you wish to include? WORK STYLE Are you a micro-manager or hands-off? Do you read your email daily or several times a day to keep in contact? Can you answer questions directly or are you unsure of this project? Can you answer many questions from me once you request my assistance or will you lose it when you see I mean business and the "chore" overwhelms you? PUBLICITY OR SEARCH ENGINE/DIRECTORY LISTING Do you have a publicity plan for how you will get attention to your site? Will you contact search engines/directories and other sources on your own? MAINTENANCE Will your site require site maintenance or will you do it yourself? If you have forms on your site, who will handle the processing of the email that you receive? RATES The following are approximates. I am very flexible especially for worthy or interesting projects. Your business might even cause me to consider bartering, which I have done in the past. Feel free to contact me to discuss possible variations that your project may require or to find out my availability and timeframe for your project. Complete Site Design Includes: Graphics, content creation (from your existing text and original), organization, email or guestbook forms using your hosting scripts (if any), scanning of pictures, consultation, some search engine/directory listings. Doesn't include: Programming, Heavy Maintenance This type of site would be a complete site, similar to Tacit Communications or Abby's Herb Company or St. Croix Sculpture, but could also be an entire project within an existing site. For instance, Fox Hunt Farms had me create their entire web site and then some months later, the owner wished to include a separate site for her cookbook, made available online in its entirety, which had references and links to their gourmet food company. $800-3000 or Bid on project Single Page Design (PR or Advertising Tool) Includes: Graphics, content creation (from your existing text), organization, scanning of pictures, consultation. Doesn't include: programming, email or guestbook forms, maintenance. Site not to be more than 150K total (graphics and text) This type of site would be something like a single page site for an attorney which you require that the person contact you personally for further information. Similar to a newspaper advertisement , short CV, or a flyer. $100-500 or Bid on project Maintenance This could include new graphics, form handling beyond initial HTML creation, page updating (such as Abby's Herbal Newsletter), weekly newsletter, photo scanning, routine search engine updates and listings, etc. $30/hour or Bid on project Something Else? I'm open to discuss your project and then provide you with a bid on it. This could include things like logo conceptualization and design, consultation on your project with another design company or self-designed, a quick site revamp like Oak Ridge Research, or a custom project. If you're interested in my personal flora photography, I have decided to make it available for aesthetically pleasing projects, such as product labeling, charity sites, or logo design.
